Gerard Furlong Is An Anaesthetist And Society Member

Doctor Gerard Furlong graduated with honours from St Bartholomew’s University Hospital in 1992 and went on to pursue a career as an anaesthetist in several large hospitals in and around the uk.

The function of the anaesthetist is definitely an invaluable element of dispensing a good quality of health care to affected individuals. Ged Furlong whilst being employed as an anaesthetist was responsible for an array of duties for the patients that he looked after. These included pre-op analysis of individuals, referring with with the surgery team performing the surgery, creating an individual anaesthesia plan for every patient and post-op treatment and supervision of subjects. As anaesthetists are perioperative medical doctors it gives them the opportunity to work in many areas of practice within the field of medical care. During his career the anaesthetist Gerard Furlong has worked within the fields of obstetrics, in the ICU (intensive care unit) at Coventry and Warwick hospital and also at the Trauma elective ward in Dunganon infirmary in Northern Ireland. Over the course of his career Doctor Furlong came to enjoy his work in the obstetrics ward the most right after recognising that he had a particular talent for giving epidurals to women at the business end of childbearing. Ged Furlong has been a keen student all of his life and is an associate of several societies. Membership of these societies allows him to stay current with the newest improvements and advancements in the field of anaesthesia as well as contribute articles for their periodicals. His expert understanding has been utilized in a number of research projects most notably on the HL7 CDA implementation guide for SCATA (Society for Computers And Technology in Anaesthesia). Outside the world of medicine Ged has a number of interests including travel, wind-surfing and he has recently taken up golf although as yet he is still seeking the perfect swing.
