Doctor Gerard Furlong managed to graduate with honours from St Bartholomew’s College Hospital in 1992 and proceeded to pursue a career being an anaesthetist in a number of large hospitals around the United Kingdom.
The role of the anaesthetist is an extremely important component of providing a high quality of medical care to patients. Ged Furlong while being employed as an anaesthetist was in charge of a wide range of obligations for the people he looked after. These included pre-op examination of individuals, referring with with the operative team carrying out the operation, producing an individual anaesthesia plan for every patient and post-op care and supervision of patients. As anaesthetists are perioperative medical professionals it gives them the opportunity to work in many disciplines within the field of medical care. During his career the anaesthetist Gerard Furlong has worked within the fields of obstetrics, inside the ICU (intensive care unit) at Coventry and Warwick medical center and also at the Trauma elective ward in Dunganon hospital in Northern Ireland. During his career Doctor Furlong came to enjoy his work in the obstetrics ward the most after realizing he had a wonderful talent for giving epidurals to ladies at the business end of pregnancy. Ged Furlong is a member of several professional medical societies. Membership of these societies enables him to keep current with the newest improvements and breakthroughs in the field of anaesthesia and also contribute articles for their publications. His expert understanding has been utilized in a number of research assignments especially on the HL7 CDA execution guide for SCATA (Society for Computers And Technology in Anaesthesia). Ged has several hobbies that he pursues when he can spare the time. These include sailing, travel and he has recently taken up golf an experience that so far he has discovered to be rather frustrating.
